Abstract
413,176. Converting; phase changing. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Bedford, B. D. ; 421, Summit Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 14, 1933, No. 31740. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1932. Addition to 367,306. [Class 38 (ii).] In means for obtaining a voltage adjustable in phase by at least 180‹ with respect to that of the supply source 12 and comprising two circuits each including different impedances one of the impedances in one of the circuits beingadjustable as described in the parent Specification, one of the circuits is connected across the whole of the supply voltage and the other circuit is connected across a part only of the supply voltage. In the arrangement shown, one of the circuits comprises a resistance 16 and a reactance 17 connected across the outer terminals of a potentiometer 15. The other circuit comprises a resistance 18 and a reactance 19 connected across tappings on the potentiometer 15. The dephased voltage occurring between the junctions of the two impedances of the two circuits is adjustable in phase by varying the resistance 16 and may be applied as shown to the grids of a valve converter used for interchanging power between a D.C. circuit 10 and an A.C. circuit 11. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the resistance 18 is replaced by a condenser, and the reactance 19 is replaced by a resistance.
