Dec. 18, 1931, No. 35129. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1930. [Class 38 (ii).] An improved voltage characteristic at the D.C. terminals 11 of a grid-regulated rectifier system is obtained by subjecting the grids to the resultant of opposed potentials one tending to produce negative bias and derived from a potentiometer 18 connected across the load circuit terminals, and the other being proportional to the ionization in the valve and derived from the drop in series resistances 21, 22 due to grid current. The connections 19, 20 to the potentiometer are made adjustable to enable the load voltage to be initially adjusted. Resistances 23, 24 sufficiently high as not to interfere with regulation are inserted between the grids and cathode-heating transformer 16 to ensure completion of the grid circuits. Smoothing arrangements comprising a choke 25 and condenser 26 may be provided. Specification 311,388, [Class 38 (ii), Electric currents, Converting &c.], is referred to.
