412,291. Drying-apparatus. NEVILE, G. H., Wellingore Hall, MONTGOMERY, A., 73, Richmond Road, and LECOCHE, J. J., Egmont, Sudbrooke, all in Lincoln. Jan. 4, 1933, No. 240. [Class 34 (ii).] In drying-apparatus for grain or the like, and consisting of two concentric cylinders of perforated metal, hot air being caused to filter through the material in the annular space between the cylinders, there is provided to regulate the downwards flow of the material an inverted round box with one or more holes or notches in its circular wall. The box is situated centrally in the lower part of the dryer, and is rotated. In the form shown, the outer cylinder P has an imperforate portion H, and a lower truncated conical portion F, in which is the round box valve K provided with notches a and resting on the cone F. A crown wheel M fitted on the top of the box is rotated by a pinion N. An adjustable slide valve I is also provided. Hot air drawn from an oven is passed into the top of the inner cylinder, and filters out through the layer of grain. In an alternative form, air is supplied to a jacket T, and passes in through the corn, and then filters out again ; this arrangement, in combination with a diaphragm D, may be used to control the flow of cold air for cooling the grain. In a second alternative form, air pipes V and S<1> are connected to the inner cylinder.
