Abstract
411,968. Railway &c. vehicle buffers. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., and SPENCER, J. C., 2, Central Buildings, Westminster. Feb. 3, 1933, No. 3359. [Class 103 (v).] In a railway-vehicle buffer of the kind in which a tubular plunger slides within a cylindrical casing mounted on the vehicle headstock, metal-to-metal contact between the buffer head 5 or plunger 4 and the forward end 8 of the casing 3 is eliminated by the provision of annular rubber cushion 10 extending peripherally around the buffer plunger and interposed between the coacting faces of the buffer head or plunger and the casing. In the selfcontained buffer shown in Fig. 1, the rubber annulus 10 is inserted in an annular recess formed by a flange 9 on the casing 4, and is retained in position either by undercutting the flange at 11 or by means of a locking-ring 12. In a modification, Fig. 3, the annular recess is formed on the forward end of the casing 3, while the co-operating flange 17 is formed on the plunger 4.
