Abstract

1. A buffer housing, especially for railway vehicles, comprising two housing parts (1 and 2) which are telescopically guided one inside the other and which are each provided at their ends remote from one another with a base plate (1a and 2a respectively), a continuous gap (6) within the limit of customary manufacturing tolerances being present inside the telescopic guide of the housing parts (1 and 2), characterized in that in its end region remote from its base plate (1a) the outer housing part (1) contains a continuous recess (1c) which substantially enlarges the internal generated surface (1b) of the outer housing part (1) and hence the gap (6), and in its lower zenith region it comprises an opening (1d) for the discharge of water which has penetrated behind the recess (1c).

Description

The invention relates to a buffer housing, in particular for rail vehicles, consisting of two telescoping housing parts which are each provided with a base plate at their ends facing away from one another.

In unfavorable installation cases - for example, in the event of heavy water accumulation from the vehicle roof - in buffer housings of the generic type, water can penetrate into the housing through the production-related gap between the two housing parts and impair the function of the buffer spring over time. Sealing means arranged between the housing parts provide a certain remedy, but cannot prevent water flowing directly onto the housing from being sucked in when the buffer is returned. This suction effect is caused by air currents in said gap.

The invention is therefore based on the object to design a buffer housing of the generic type so that the buffer spring is effectively protected from water. This object is achieved in that the outer housing part in the end area facing away from its base plate contains a circumferential recess which substantially widens the inner lateral surface of the outer housing part and has an opening in the region of its lower apex line for the drainage of water that has passed behind the recess.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the opening of the outer housing part is arranged in the region of the telescopic guide of the two housing parts.

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing and will be described in more detail below. The drawing shows a buffer housing in longitudinal section through the vertical center plane.

The buffer housing according to the drawing is intended for a buffer spring designed, for example, as a friction spring or as a hydraulically operating device. The housing consists of an outer housing part 1 with a base plate la, which are connected to one another by screws 3 with the arrangement of a sealing ring 4, and furthermore from an inner housing part 2 with a base plate 2a formed thereon. The two housing parts 1 and 2 are telescopically guided into one another under the existence of a gap 6 and are fixed against the direction of impact by a retaining ring which, for this purpose, engages in a groove 2b of the inner housing part 2 and bears against a stop collar le of the outer housing part 1.

The outer housing part 1 contains in the end area facing away from its base plate la a circumferential, in the present example cylindrical recess lc. Through this Recess lc, the inner lateral surface lb of the outer housing part 1 and thus the gap 6 existing between the housing parts 1 and 2 are substantially expanded, with the favorable consequences that water flowing onto the buffer housing does not wet the entire gap 6 and during the return stroke of the buffer housing - because of the reduced flow velocity of the air through the recess lc at the gap 6 - significantly less water is sucked in. The water portion which is nevertheless sucked in flows unhindered through an opening ld of the outer housing part 1 in the lower apex region of the telescopic guide, that is to say even before it enters the interior of the housing.
