Abstract
372,866. Buffers for railway &c. vehicles. SPENCER, A. and SPENCER, MOULTON, & CO., Ltd., G., 2, Central Buildings, Westminster. March 4, 1931, Nos. 6754 and 13449. [Class 103 (v).] In a railway vehicle buffer having an oval head 10 mounted on the tubular plunger, the latter is prevented from rotation relative to the casing 1 by providing on its flanged inner end 9 projections or lugs 30 which are guided within laterally projecting pockets'31 on the buffer casing. In the construction shown the casing is of rectangular cross section with a reduced forward portion 6 of cylindrical shape, while the pockets 31 are also substantially rectangular and accommodate rectangular bolts 32 on which the lugs 30 slide. The pockets and lugs may, however, be of tapering or conical formation to facilitate access to the bolts 3 that secure the casing to the headstock. Preferably the springs disposed within the buffer comprise, as described in Specification 371,309, an inner and lighter helical or indiarubber. spring 11 telescoping within an outer rear indiarubber spring 25. If desired, the head 10 may be removably secured to the tubular portion of the plunger by a bayonet-joint connection comprising a series of projections on the rear of the buffer head coacting with a corresponding series of lugs on the plunger body.
