Abstract

190,890. Spencer, J. C. Dec. 5, 1921. Buffers.-In a buffer for railway and like vehicles of the kind in which a buffer rod or shank projects through and slides in a casing or guide fixed to the vehicle headstock, a shock absorbing pad or cushion of india-rubber surrounded by a metal casing is arranged around the rod or shank between the buffer head from which the rod or shank extends and the outer end of the buffer casing or rod guide. In Fig. 1 the casing 6 slides on the end of the buffer casing 1 and is attached by the bolts 8. A rubber ring 4 moulded to a plate 5 acts as a shock absorber. In a modification, Fig. 3, the casing 10 abuts the rear face of the buffer head and is secured on the rod by a tight fitting sleeve 15. A sliding plate 12 is retained in the casing 10 by lugs or a semi-circular flange 13 and retains in the casing 10 a shock absorbing pad 4.
