411,588. Control system for consuming devices; rectifying. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 30, 1933, No. 2889. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1932. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv).] In a control system employing grid controlled discharge devices 14, 15 the grid voltages comprise the vector sum of three voltages derived respectively from a transformer 33 the primary of which is connected directly across the supply, a transformer 34 the primary of which is connected across the supply through a resistance 36, and means such as an induction regulator 11 for supplying a voltage in phase with the supply which may be varied in magnitude and direction. In the arrangement shown the current through the saturating winding of a choke 25 is controlled to periodically dim lamps 10 used for decorative lighting the induction regulator 11 being rotated by means of a motor 12.
