Abstract

407,073. Control of A.C. and D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Livingston, O. W.; 841, Main Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 7, 1932, No. 24969. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1931. [Class 38 (iii).] The varying effect of a saturable inductance 15, controlling a load circuit 11, when the load is varied is corrected by changing the voltage condition of the grid of a valve 16 in the saturating circuit so that, for example, the illumination of lamps 10 in a theatre will correspond with the setting of a control element 17 whatever the lamp load may be. The grid circuit contains a resistance 34 across which a constant potential difference is maintained and a resistance 39 across which is an opposed and pulsating potential derived from the load circuit so that it varies with the voltage on the circuit. A second valve 42 may be employed when the valve 16 is a half wave rectifier to maintain the current in the saturating circuit throughout the A.C. cycle. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the device was stated to be applicable to the field circuit of a motor or of a Ward Leonard generator. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
