[Class:38 (iv)] Voltage control.-A. monocyclic square comprising inductances 4 and condensers 5 has a transformer winding 3 across one diagonal and taps 8, 9 of the transformer adjustable simultaneously in opposite directions with respect to a given point in the winding, such as the centre 13. are connected to the ends of the other diagonal. Simultaneous adjustment in opposite senses of the voltage applied to reactance elements of oppoiste character is obtained, whereby the power factor of a load circuit across which the transformer is connected may be controlled. Boost-buck transformers 17, 18 may also have their primary windings connected to the transformer taps so that a rise in load circuit voltage obtained by increase of capacitive reactance is assisted by boosting the line volts and vice versa. The taps may be operated automatically by a relay and motor arrangement 14, 12 responsive to load circuit volts. Specification 436,447 is referred to.
