Abstract

411,147. Seats. GLASS, W., 252, Regent Street, London. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29913. [Class 52 (ii).] A seat with an adjustable back comprises two frames 1, 4 pivoted together at 5, and a back frame 2 pivoted at 3 to the upper end of the frame 1 and engaging by projecting members 9, recesses 10 formed on the upper surface of the member 4. A canvas seat 7 is attached to cross-bars 8, 6 in the frames 2, 4 respectively. The back frame 2 is adjustable in the range allowed by the ends 11 of the recesses 10 and is secured in any adjusted position by the friction between the members 9 and the frame 4 due to the weight of the person using the chair. A notch 12 in the frame 4 provides a further reclining position for the chair. In a modification, Fig. 5, frames 2, 4 are pivoted to the fixed sides of a reclining chair. The canvas seat can then be replaced by an upholstered seat formed in two hinged portions 7<a>, 7b. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 403,678.
