Abstract
A process for preparing sintered bodies from metallic oxides such as oxides of aluminium, beryllium, chromium, manganese, zirconium, magnesium or hafnium which are free from impurities especially clay and silicic acid by casting a paste which has been activated by acid, is characterized in that the concentration of the acid is regulated according to the grain size of the oxide such that a dilute acid is added to fine material and a more concentrated acid is added to coarser ground material. After moulding, the products are sintered at a temperature above 1600 DEG C. In examples (1) 30 grams of hydrochloric acid solution containing 7 grams acid to the litre are added to 70 grams of powder of grain size about 0,01 mm. (2) 35 grams of hydrochloric acid solution containing 17 grams acid to the litre are added to 65 grams of powder of grain size of 0,015 mm. (3) 35 grams of hydrochloric acid solution containing 105 grams acid to the litre are added to 65 grams of powder of grain size 0,025 mm.
