Abstract
409,918. Injectors &c. STAINES, F., 94, Victoria Street, London. June 15, 1933, No. 17115. [Class 71.] Liquids are atomized and aerated simultaneously by causing a jet of the liquid to impinge on and displace a spherical body which normally seals the aperture through which the liquid passes, thereby permitting passage of the liquid, the sphere being freely mounted or supported, and the jet serv-. ing to induce a current of air or other gas which co-operates with the sphere in atomizing the liquid. The liquid may be used for lowering or raising the temperature of rooms or for washing glass or other hollow ware. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the spherical body 11 is mounted freely on a seating 9 and is displaced by a jet of water from a nozzle 1. The atomized liquid foams within a receptacle 7a which, together with an outer casing 13 through which air is drawn off by a pipe 13a, rests on a corrugated plate 14 in a trough 8. The nozzle 1 is located at the base of a cone-shaped body 7 to which air is admitted through perforations 3. By omitting the bodies 7<a> and 13, the device may be used for washing tumblers, which may be inverted over the atomized liquid. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the foaming liquid emerging through a perforated body 21 in a tube 23 overflows into a tray 22 having a perforated plate 20a disposed thereon on which articles to be washed may be supported. Liquid collecting in the tray 20 escapes by a pipe 16b to which the overflow pipe 16a for a chamber 15 containing the nozzle 1 immersed in water is connected. The nozzle 1 in this case is provided with side perforations 16 from which liquid flows into the chamber 15. Provision for admitting air by means of pipes 18 is also made. In an alternative form of valve, the upper part of the spherical body is recessed and engages a pin encircled by a spring, the other end of which engages a bridge piece, so that the body is only displaced against the action of the spring, and may be used in devices disposed in a horizontal as well as a vertical plane. The pin may be provided with vanes to effect a further breaking up of the liquid.
