[Class 7 (ii).] A light metal piston a for Diesel engines has a plate b of hard metal, having the same coefficient of expansion as the light metal, inserted in the central portion of the head. By varying the thickness of the plate, the rate of heat transfer to the light metal and accordingly the temperature of the combustion chamber, may be controlled.
