Abstract

409,505. Freewheel clutches. MOREAU, P., 22, Rue d'Orleans, Neuilly-sur- Seine, France. April 13, 1933, No. 11146. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 19, 1933.] [Class 80 (ii).] Freewheel mechanism comprises a screw 42, Fig. 7, which is formed on the driving shaft 40 and which co-operates with a nut 45 having projections 46 engaging bayonet slots 51 in the hollow driven member 44. The nut carries blade springs 47 in frictional contact with a flange 48 on the shaft 40. In the over-running position, the projections 46 are positioned as shown, so maintaining the nut out of engagement with the screw. During drive, the drag on the springs 47 causes the nut to turn so that its projections come opposite the axial part 51<1> of the slots 51, and a spring 49 moves the nut into engagement, the drive being transmitted solely through the threads. A spring 53 assists the reverse movement of the nut. In a modification, the shaft 40 is constituted by an extension of the input pinion of a motor-vehicle gear-box, the sleeve 44 carrying the driven disc of the engine clutch, and a dog clutch member is provided for positively connecting the shaft 40 and sleeve 44 when bidirectional drive is required. In another form, the driving member comprises a pinion with internal helical teeth co-operating with external teeth on an axiallymovable member, which latter has internal projections engaging bayonet slots in a driven shaft and has a cylindrical part embraced by spring-loaded brake shoes carried by the pinion. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, includes also a construction comprising a screw 15, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), formed on the driving shaft 1 and a nut 6 splined in a casing 3 secured to the driven shaft 2. A ring 10, having a one-way connection with the shaft 1 through the medium of wedging rollers, carries pins 11 passing through inclined slots 22 in a sleeve 9 splined in a part 20 of the casing and through circumferential slots 21 in the part 20. A spring 8 is arranged between the nut 6 and the sleeve 20, and the nut is urged towards the sleeve by springs 7. During drive, the ring 10 turns with the shaft 1, the pins 11 cause the sleeve 20 to move towards the nut, and, through the spring 20, the nut is thus brought into engagement with the screw. Finally, the nut abuts against the wall of the casing. Bidirectional drive may be obtained by means of a dog clutch member 4 splined on the shaft 1. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
