Abstract

409,375. Broaching-tools. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., and RANDALL, F. E., Edgware, Middlesex. Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30612. [Class 83 (iii).] A broach has the sides of the cutting teeth tapered downwardly or rearwardly for reducing the friction between the teeth and walls of a groove or the like being cut. The teeth d in a broach for spline cutting are parallel for a short portion e of their length, the sides then being relieved in the axial direction to an extent of 0.5‹ to 1‹. The teeth may also be relieved towards the centre of the broach, Fig. 3, in which case the leading teeth, Fig. 4, which are of shallow depth are formed with chamfered sides i, the grooving or undercutting k being effected by the following teeth.
