Abstract

408,992. Broaches. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., RANDALL, F. E., Edgware, and HARRIS, E. W., Beauchene, Fairfield Crescent, Edgware, Middlesex. July 21, 1932, No. 20651. [Class 83 (iii).] A broach for cutting splined shafts or other serrated spindles such as those used in textile machinery is built up from a number of internally toothed rings a mounted in a housing e and separated by guide plates d formed with segmental extensions p which form between them a passage q in front of each cutting plate to permit the escape of chips &c. The cutters and guide plates are held against rotation by a longitudinal key j. The housing has an integral flange h for attachment to the machine and is slotted at k and formed with holes l for the escape of metal and lubricant. Each successive cutter may be smaller than the preceding one or the cutters may be arranged in pairs with the members of each pair of the same diameter.
