Abstract

496,916. Broaching- tools. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd. (Lapointe Machine Tool Co.) March 22, 1938, No. 8796. [Class 83 (iii)] A broach particularly for broaching cored holes in cast iron has a number of polyangular cutting sections 21 ... 34 with cutting edges at the angles, the sections being arranged in two series with the odd sections forming one series and the even sections the other series, each series having its angular teeth arranged in axial alignment midway between the aligned teeth of the other series. From Fig. 2 it is seen that the leading teeth 21, 22 of each series cut relatively deep grooves at 30‹ apart on the work, these grooves being widened by cuts taken mainly from the sides of the grooves by the remaining angular teeth. The hole is finally cut to circular form by a cutting section 35 and brought to finished size by successive circular sections 36. Oval or similar shaped holes may be finished in a similar way.
