Abstract
533,274. Broaches. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd. (Lapointe Machine Tool Co.). Oct. 26, 1939, No. 28752. [Class 83 (iii)] A broach, particularly for broaching cored holes has a number of series 1-8 of polyangular cutting sections, all the sections of a series being of the same diameter and each having the same number of similarly spaced cutting teeth 20 so arranged that the first few sections 1-4 cut into circumferentially spaced sections, Fig. 2, of the solid stock while the remaining sections 5-8 trim off the ridges between the cuts made by the first sections. The broach may have a ribbed non-cutting pilot centering portion 12 and the space between the teeth of each section is recessed to concave form 22. The first series is followed by a continuous reaming section 16 after which the second series removes additional metal from the hole. The last series may be followed by a number of reaming sections 18 and by a series of plain round teeth which accurately finish the hole.
