Abstract

403,128. Broaching cutters. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., RANDALL, F. E., Edgware, and HARRIS, E. W., Beauchene, Fairfield Crescent, Edgware, Middlesex. May 21, 1932, No. 14483. [Class 83 (iii).] A broach having teeth which increase gradually in diameter away from the leading end has its teeth arranged in pairs, the teeth of each successive pair a b being of the same diameter. In some cases the leading tooth of a pair is notched as at c while the following tooth is plain and serves to clean up the cut made by the first tooth. Preferably the nicks of the tooth a are in staggered relation, to those of the next nicked tooth. A similar construction may be applied to a segmental toothed cutter for forming splines, Fig. 5, the leading tooth of each pair having notches g which are staggered in relation to those of adjacent notched teeth. The invention may also be applied to broaches for cutting helical grooves. In other modifications all the teeth are notched, the second tooth of a pair having its notches staggered with regard to those of the leading tooth. The teeth may be undercut at i to facilitate chip removal.
