Abstract
551,549. Broaches. LAPOINTE MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd. (Lapointe Machine Tool Co.). April 30, 1941, No. 5619. [Class 83 (iii)] A rifling broach comprises a series of broaching units A which produce half width grooves extending to full depth and serving to form and mamtain the correct lead in the work, and other broaching units which produce deep cuts at each side of the initial grooves to produce the full groove width. The broach has a shank 10 and follower 20 which fit the internal bore of the work to ensure correct guiding of the broach. The width of teeth in series A decreases from 0.075 inch to 0.072 inch with progressive increase in outside diameter. These teeth produce the grooves 15, Fig. 6, of substantially full depth. The teeth of series B remove layers of stock in the parts 17 by full width teeth of increasing diameter. The teeth in the third series C produce a gradual deepening of the grooves and are slightly narrowed from unit to unit while the teeth of series D are all of the same size and act as finishing teeth.
