Abstract
407,680. Friction clutches. DOUGLAS MOTORS (1932), Ltd., and PULLIN, C. G., Kingswood, Bristol. Sept. 16, 1932, No. 25821. [Class 80 (ii).] A brake or clutch comprises an external band 15 and an internal band 14 expanded against flanges 11, 12 of a drum by rollers 18 operated on by abutment pieces 17 and a cam 16. Two diametricallyopposite cams and abutments may be used. Segments of rollers, taper rollers or balls running in grooves in the hands may be used. Only one band may be used. The rollers and bands may be grooved and ribbed to maintain alignment of the rollers. The faces of the cams may be arranged to give preliminary slow operation. When applied to a clutch the operating cam is of wedge form.
