[Class 80 (ii)] A friction coupling, between a sleeve 4 keyed to the shaft 3 of a power press or other machine and a belt-driven flywheel 5 journalled on the sleeve, comprises oppositely-disposed keys 4c projecting from the sleeve 4 into the gaps between the ends of a pair of friction-faced split steel bands 7, arranged side-by-side within, and maintained, under the combined action of the inherent resiliency of the bands and centrifugal force, in contact with the adjacent surface of, a recess in the flywheel, The ends of the bands and the sides of the keys are both inclined at an angle of about 30‹. An idle pulley 6 is also journalled on the sleeve 4.
