404,891. Train operated contact devices. VEREINIGTE EISENBAHNSIGNALWERKE GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 9, 1933, No. 22314. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1932. [Class 105.] The deflection of a rail forces mercury from a compressible chamber 1 situated under the rail through a bore in a fixed piston 3, fitted with a non- return valve 8, to lift a movable cylinder 4 which has a capped stud 5 normally depressing open a contact spring 6. After the initial short movement of the cylinder 4 the contact 6, 7 therefore closes and remains closed during the further upward movement of the cylinder, and until such time as the mercury has leaked through labyrinth packing grooves 10 and a longitudinal groove 11 on the piston 3 to permit the cylinder to descend. The mercury returns from the container 13 past a one way valve 12,to the compressible chamber 1.
