Abstract
404,096. Turning-gear. DOUGLAS MOTORS (1932), Ltd., and PULLIN, C. G., Kingswood, Bristol. Sept. 28, 1932, No. 26958. [Class 7 (v).] In a kick starter for motor-cycle engines, the pedal-actuated toothed segment 7 is axially fast and the driven pinion 6 moves axially, when rotated by the segment, along a screwthreaded sleeve 9 to establish a driving connection with the gear-box by shaft 4 through ratchet teeth 5, 3 or dogs or the like. As shown, the sleeve 9 is held by a spring 12 in contact with a shoulder 11 on the end of a fixed bearing sleeve 10 in which the end of the lay shaft 4 rotates.
