Abstract

403,430. Projectile fuzes. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, London.-(Magyar Fem-es Lampa-Aru Gyar Reszveny-Tarsasag; Budapest.) May 20, 1932, No. 14427. [Class 9 (i).] The firing-mechanism of a hand grenade is held at safe by means of a concavo-convex spring disc 4 with a bent edge 4a holding a disc 3 tightly against a washer 3a in a socket 2 on the grenade body 1, thereby confining a flap 7 pivoted at 6 and bearing over a head 9 carrying pins 10 which lock balls 12 against the edge of a sleeve 14 of one member 13 of a percussion fuze constituted by two members 11, 13 held against conical seats 18, 17 by a spring 19. The disc 4 is pressed in position by pressure on a ring 5. Before use, the disc is loosened by finger pressure on its centre and removed. Then when the grenade is thrown, the flap 7 swings out and the head 9 falls off with the pins 10, leaving the balls 12 free to move inwards. On impact, the fuze is fired by the approach of the members 11, 13 towards each other. A ring 20 supported by a spring 21 is provided for safety in case of a premature fall as described in Specification 403,675.
