Abstract

403,278. Fire-extinguishing. ALLEN, S. E., 560, Belmont Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. April 22, 1933, No. 11832. Convention date, April 23, 1932. [Class 47 (ii).] A fire-extinguishing medium liquified under pressure, such as carbon dioxide, is supplied from a source 14 to a series of jet nozzles 23 arranged in a floor 17, for example the floor of a hangar 10. The medium expands to gaseous form and is drawn up to the fire by the draught caused thereby. Each jet, Fig. 3, comprises a cylindrical casing having a hemi-spherical end wall 25 into which the jet pipe 22 opens. A spreader 27 is arranged above the pipe, and the open end of the jet is closed by a cover 24, which is thrown off by the issuing medium. In a modification, the casing is longer, the spreader is omitted, and the cover is hinged. A fireproof curtain 13 is held rolled, above the doorway 11 of the hangar, by hooks 19. When the medium is released from the source 14, part of it passes by a pipe 18 to cylinders 21 in which are pistons adapted to rock the hooks 19 to release the curtain.
