Our inVention-relates to [apparatus used in extinguishing fires and particularly to the,
apparatus used in extinguishing fires in enclosures such'as a compartment or room; -Whei1 afire"extingulshingfluid or gas'1s extinguishing'afiretherein, it is very desirable to; have all the external openings to the room C1OS8dySO as to prevent the escape of the extinguishing gas or fluid. from the room and also to prevent. the flames of the fire from escapingand spreading outside the room. In practice itis desirable that the closing of theopenings to the'room occur antomatically' with the release of the extingiiishingfliiid in order that the one-operation of releasing. thefluid releases the fluid and closes the openings. 1

The doorway is closed by a closing member such as a door36, which is supported on hang ers 37 rolling on an inclined track 38.v When the door 36 is not restrained, it normally moves down the'traek 38 on the, hangers 37 and closes the doorway 35 in a well-known manner, A restraining member insthe .form of a cord or "rope 391s attached at one end 7 to the door36and atthe'otherendto the yoke [In the normal position of 31 of the device 34.

Incase of a fire in the room, the fire'extinguishing fluid is released through the supply pipe 19, the nipple 18, the opening 14 the body ll and issues as'a jet from the opening 17 in the nozzle 16. The jet of fluid issuing from the nozzle 16 strikes the flat portion 27 of the operatingmember 26 and causes it tomove upward. .Thisbreaks the connection between the-,walls of the opening 23 and the pin 23, releasing the restraining member 39, which;- allows the door 36 to close the doorway 35. Theoperating member 26 being released from. the. device 34 is carried away from the-device 34; by the closing-of the door- 36 and do es not interfere with the escape ofth fluid fromthe nozzle 16.
