Abstract
403,158. Concrete bridges. BAUER, B., 51, Mariahilferstrasse, Vienna. July 14, 1932, No. 19955. [Class 20 (i).] Concrete arches for bridges are cast in situ by the use of a light metal framework insufficient in itself to carry the dead weight of the finished bridge but serving, when strengthened by the first section of concrete cast, as a support on which the remainder of the bridge may be built without the aid of temporary supports. The steel framework is built up of flanged sheetsteel bars a placed edge uppermost and joined grid fashion, the joints being connected longitudinally by connector section-bars l apertured to receive reinforcing bars n, and by diagonals m. The lower longitudinal connectors support the shell or form o which may be of corrugated sheets. In a modification, Fig. 2, the steel framework is of double-grid formation connected by joint bars d, the joints being connected by channel bars g, and the shell k is adjustably supported by nuts ion bolts h. The joints may be connected lengthwise of the bridge by diagonals e instead of by longitudinals, or longitudinals composed of double angle-irons f may be used in conjunction with the diagonals.
