Abstract
402,844. Friction clutches. TURNER, Ltd., S., and PLINT, A. F., 43, Market Place, Henley-on-Thames. March 11, 1933, No. 8900/32. [Class 80 (ii).] A power-transmission mechanism from an engine to a rotary member carrying the load, for example a propeller or fan, comprises a centrifugal clutch having spring-controlled shoes 12 pivotally mounted at one end on the flywheel 11 or other constantly rotating part of the engine and co-operating with a driven drum 10 joumalled on the engine shaft 15, the driven shaft 5 being carried by an extension 16 of the engine shaft and being connected to the aforesaid drum. The connection between the drum 10 and the shaft 5 comprises a flexible disc 18 bolted to the drum and a spider 17 mounted on the shaft. A throttle valve 22, Fig. 1, on the carburettor of the engine 1 is fitted with a spring-controlled quadrant 23 connected for operation by a hand lever 25 or a pedal 30 so that the engine speed can be reduced sufficiently to stop the boat without stopping the engine.
