Abstract
402,523. Spray carburetters. ELLIOTT, A. G., Darley Dene, Belper Road, Derby. July 15, 1932, No. 20084. [Class 7 (iii).] In an idling or slow-running device in which the idling nozzle communicates with the induction passage at or near the edge of the throttle valve when in its closed position, the communication is by way of two orifices differently situated with reference to the edge of the throttle, and controlled in such manner that either may be fully obstructed with the other fully open or both may be partly obstructed. The main nozzle b<3> is fed from the float chamber a<4> through conduits b, b<1>, b<2>, of which b<2> is branched at b<4> to supply fuel to the idling nozzle d<2> surrounded by a choke tube formed at the lower end of a sleeve d<3> adjustable axially by an arm d<5>. Air enters the idling carburetter by a conduit f and mixture flows through a conduit g<4> to a cylindrical chamber h which communicates with the induction passage through orifices h<1>, h<2> arranged as shown in Fig. 2. These orifices are controlled by an eccentric extension k<1> of a plug k adapted to be rotated by a flexible arm l, Figs. 1, 6, a projection l<1> on which is adapted to engage teeth in the inturned rim of a plate m secured to the carburetter casing by screws m<1>. Alternatively, the plug k may be actuated from the dashboard. A crescent-shaped segment k<2>, Fig. 2, on the plug may be provided to share the thrust of the plug. By adjustment of the plug, one or the other of the orifices, or parts of both may be covered and the best idling conditions obtained.
