Abstract

429,967. Spray carburetters. WEBER, E., 3A, Via Cairoli, Bologna, Italy. June 15, 1934, No. 17771. [Class 7 (iii)] Consists in a device to be applied to the main carburetter to facilitate starting and slowrunning and to weaken the mixture during normal running when maximum power is not required or at high altitudes and, at times, to supplement the main mixture supply. The main carburetter has a Venturi 51, Fig. 2, surrounding the main nozzle, and a throttle valve 50. At the side of this carburetter is fitted a casing 1 containing a toothed member 3 adapted to be actuated by a pinion 4 and arm 5 and carrying at its extremities valves 9, 10, the valve 9 being elastically connected to the member through a spring 8. The upper end of the casing communicates through a passage 6 with the induction pipe above the throttle valve 50, and the lower end through a passage 14 with a space around the Venturi 51, these passages being controlled respectively by the valves 9, 10. Below valve 10 is a ported plate 15 leading to a pipe 17 in communication with the main air inlet. The upper part of the casing 1 communicates also through a duct 12 and either of holes 23, 24, with the interior of a regulator 13 which can be rotated through 180‹ and held in either of the two positions by spring-pressed balls 20. Within the regulator is a tube 31 adapted to be moved axially by suction, and having a bore 34 with enlargements 37, 49 at its ends. The tube has lateral passages 38, 39, 35 and, on its outer surface, recesses 36, 361 are formed. The lower end 49 of the tube encircles a fuel nozzle 46, fed from the float chamber through a passage 44 and adapted to furnish the fuel for starting. In the position shown, the regulator 13 occupies the " summer setting," the " winter setting " being obtained by rotating the regulator so as to close the hole 28 and replace the aperture 23, opposite conduit 12, by the larger aperture 24. For normal running, both valves 9, 10, Fig. 2, are closed ; to weaken the mixture during normal running, the member 3 is lowered, thereby opening valve 10 and admitting air. If additional mixture be required during normal running, the member 3 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 3. The Specification describes the movements of the member 31 and the resulting mixture strengths produced thereby.
