402,126. Treating tanning extracts. FORESTAL LAND, TIMBER, & RAILWAYS CO., Ltd., 15, St. Helen's Place, London, TURNBULL, A., and HOBSON, F. B., Central Laboratories, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. May 25, 1932, No. 14898. [Class 76.] Vegetable tanning extracts are decolourized by treatment with a hot aqueous solution containing sulphurous and formic acids. The tanning materials are heated with water, the sulphurous acid or its salts added and then the formic acid in several instalments. A temperature of 90‹ C. to 95‹ C. is preferable.
