Abstract
401,371. Hydraulic transmission of power. HICKS, SIR M., 12, Grosvenor Gardens, and HEATH, A. R. N., Rowans, Hartington Road, Chiswick, both in London. April 16, 1932, Nos. 10925 and 10930. [Class 69 (ii).] Hydraulic power transmission apparatus comprises driving and driven members having adjacent, annular, parallel surfaces, means for varying the quantity of liquid lying between the surfaces being provided. In the form shown, plates F3 carried by the driven member F<2> lie between plates E<1> carried by the driving member. Gas may be admitted at F' to force liquid out of the plate chamber into a chamber E<2> provided with an air-escape valve E<5>. The plates may have one or more annular corrugations and may be of generally conical form. According to the Provisional Specifications, the coacting surfaces may be of cylindrical form, and one or more spiral passages may be employed for varying the quantity of liquid. Further the action may be controlled by varying the distance between the coacting surfaces, or by varying the pressures in parts of the apparatus.
