Abstract

401,336. Sliding-clasp fastenings. CORNER, G. H. C., 507, Walsall Road, Perry Barr, and LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd., Witton, both in Birmingham. May 3, 1932, No. 12706. [Class 44.] In a fastener of the type in which two flexible stringers each furnished with a series of interlocking elements are connected and disconnected by a slider mounted thereon and operable to open and close the fastener from the front or the back, the slider is fitted with a locking means which can be released by means of the operating tab from either the front or rear. With the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the locking is effected by the engagement with the interlocking elements 9 of a detent 6 extending from a spring-pressed rocker 5 pivotally mounted on the front face 1 of the slider. The front tab 8 directly actuates the rocker 5 to withdraw the detent 6 while the rear tab 10 actuates a link 11 which passes through the slider and is connected to the rocker 5 on the other side of the pivot 4. Figs 3 and 5 show a construction in which a single tab 14 can be moved from the front to the rear of the slider by engaging a T-section member 13 mounted on and extending round the slider. This member 13 is of spring material and U-shaped with one end 18 pivotally mounted on the slider while the other end carries the detent 16, the outward movement of which is limited by a lip 17 bent up from the front face of the slider. The member 13 is retained between pressedup lugs 19, 20 on the two faces of the slider and rests on similar but lower lugs 22, 23. On pulling the tab 14 while within the limits e f the detent 16 is withdrawn by the flexure of the front limb of the member 13 but when the tab is at the rear and pulled while within the limits g h the rear limb is rocked about the pivot 18 and a pull is transmitted through the top connecting part of member 13 to the top of the front limb which is thus rocked about the fulcrum 22 and so withdraws the detent 16.
