Oct. 7, 1932, No. 27985. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1931. [Class 38 (i).] The arc formed by the rupture of a fuse is extinguished by the production of an electrostatic field transverse to the arc, the equipotential surfaces in such a field coinciding with the path of the arc. A cartridge a carries strips d, d<1> one attached to each cap b, b<1> so as to take up the opposite potentials when the fuses c melt. Inturned projections e, e<1> concentrate the transverse field at the centre of length of the arc.
