Abstract

255,117. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of McGee, R. R.). July 13, 1925, [Convention date]. Fusible cut-outs of the explosion type have a very short length of fuse 4 connected to a relatively non-fusible conductor 8 constantly under spring tension till the fuse blows when it is pulled down leaving too large a gap for an arc to be maintained or to strike. The explosion chamber 1 is of horn and has two conducting ferrules 2, 3, the upper being slightly sealed by a cap 14, which normally holds on fusing but gives if the explosion is violent. The tension in the conductor 8 forces the arms 13 of the spider 12 against the sides of the ferrule 3 to ensure contact and a tin-foil or like disc 17 prevents ingress of moisture.
