Abstract
216,612. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). March 20, 1923. Fusible cut-outs.-A removable fuse plug has a roll or package of fusing material such as ribbon or wire so arranged in a carrier that a length of it can be held in electrical connection with contacts and yet not be positively held when a covering cap is removed. A plug 10 carries a screw contact 11 with a spring tongue 22 and has an internal recess 12 in which is a post 13 carrying a contact 16 in connection with an external contact 15. A fuse carrier 24 has a recess 28 adapted to contain a roll of fuse ribbon 29 which passes to its exterior by a slot 28a so that a length can be drawn out over a recess 27, means 30 being provided to hold the end of the ribbon. On inserting the carrier in the plug the post 13 presses the ribbon into the recess 27 and the fuse length is placed in circuit with the terminals 22, 16. A screw cap 18 with a transparent control portion secures the carrier in place. The fuse material is preferably a strip with its cross section diminished at points 33 spaced so as to lie at about the inner end of the carrier when the fuse is assembled.
