Abstract

The stringers of sliding-clasp fastenings are formed by casting the fastener elements on to the edge of a tape projecting into the mould, the casting material being thermoplastic and being injected in a heated condition, so as to be liquid or plastic, into the mould which is water-cooled to effect the solidification of the material. Suitable materials are cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, benzyl cellulose, or thermoplastic resin powder containing suitable plasticizers. With a simple two-piece mould the fastener elements can only be made with ridge interlocking parts but by subsequent treatment with a heated tool the usual projection-and-socket interlocking can be achieved. Alternatively the mould described in Specification 395,708 may be used.
