Abstract
400,729. Fireguards; trivets. KIRBY, J. I., Aston Villa, Walsall Road, Little Aston, near Sutton Coldfield. July 8, 1932, No. 19297. [Class 126.] A fireguard for barless grates comprises a platform 1 having at the rear means for engaging over the front of the grate, and at the front legs 6 resting on the hearth, on which platform is hinged a guard plate or panel 3 so as to be adapted to take an upright position or to fold down on to the platform to form a trivet or hearth stand. In the construction shown, spaced arms or lugs 7 at the rear of the platform engage over the grate front and an adjustable sliding member or clamp 13 engages the front face. The guard panel 3 is hinged to the platform 1 by means of lugs 4 engaging slots in the latter, and is provided with an operating handle 19. The platform 1 is of grid form, or alternatively holes may be formed in the guard-panel 3 or between it and the platform. The legs 6 are in two parts connected by bolts passing through slots so that they may be adjusted in height.
