Abstract
Water-soluble crystalline aluminium salts of lower fatty acids are obtained by mixing an aqueous solution of the salt with the corresponding fatty acid in excess and allowing the mixture to stand at the ordinary temperature without heating and if desired with agitation. Crystallization may be promoted by seeding. Aluminium formate solutions of sp. gr. of at least 1,045, and aluminium acetate solutions of sp. gr. of at least 1,015 are suitable for use in the process, the concentration of acetic acid in the case of aluminium acetate being more than 300 grms. per litre. Crystals may also be obtained in the case of aluminium formate solitions of sp. gr. of at least 1.100 without the addition of acid.
