Abstract

The double salt of quinine lactate and calcium lactate is prepared by crystallization of the components from a common solvent. Sodium citrate may be added prior to the crystallization, in which case the double salt is obtained in admixture with sodium citrate. The products, which are useful therapeutically, may be compressed into small tablets. According to the example, quinine is liberated from its sulphate, stirred with water and lactic acid added to effect solution. The equivalent quantity of calcium lactate and a little sodium citrate are then added, the solution concentrated and the double salt allowed to crystallize out with the sodium citrate. The Specification also refers to the presence, in lieu of sodium citrate, of tartaric or citric acid together with sodium bicarbonate.ALSO:The double salt of quinine lactate and calcium lactate is prepared by crystallization of the components from a common solvent, e.g. water.
