Abstract
Formic acid; borocitric, borotartaric, and borosalicylic acids.--Formic acid is liberated by reacting upon a boroformate with an oxyacid in presence of moisture. If citric or tartaric acids are used, which contain much water of crystallization the formic acid is liberated, immediately on mixing, with the formation of complex acids, but with an anhydrous oxyacid such as salicylic acid, the mixture only liberates formic acid on moistening, the moisture of the skin or atmospheric moisture being sufficient. The mixture may be used for disinfecting, preservative, caustic, feebly stimulating or chemically reducing purposes, and may be scattered as desired, after which moisture is allowed to act upon it.ALSO:Formic acid is liberated by reacting upon a boroformate with an oxyacid in presence of moisture.
