Abstract
398,964. Thermally-actuated valves. RADIATION, Ltd., Thimble Mill Lane, Aston, Birmingham, and POOL E, R., Grappenhall Works, Thelwall Lane, Grappenhall, Warrington, Lancashire. June 4, 1932, No. 15764. [Class 135.] A thermally-actuated valve device for use with gas burners comprises the arrangement of a member i which is detachable from the body of the device containing the valve seating g, with a valve slidably but non-rotatably connected to the member i, an adjustable abutment-piece n screw-connected with the valve, a rotatable adjusting-piece q carried by the member i, and a spring r acting on the valve, in such manner that the several parts can be removed from the body of the device as a single unit. The valve is actuated by the relative expansion between a rod f and a tube e due to heat. The members q, n are connected by a tongue-and-groove coupling with the tongue o on the member n or on the member q. A part of the adjusting-piece q passes through the member i and is notched for engagement by a key. Inwardly directed projections l on the member i engage flats m on the valve member so as to permit limited axial movement but not rotation. Alternatively, the projections may be on the valve member, or guide stems on the member i may engage notches in the periphery of the valve. The end of the adjusting-piece q may be enclosed by a cap u, or may carry a graduated disc co-operating with an index on the member i.
