Abstract
398,367. Centrifugal gas-cleaners. O P E L , F. V O N, 33, Bismarckstrasse, Charlottenburg, Berlin. Nov. 22, 1932, No. 33012. [Class 23.] In an internal-combustion engine for use on submarines &c. and working on a closed cycle liquid oxygen is added to the exhaust products to make the gaseous charge for the succeeding explosion. The condensate in the gases resulting from the addition of the oxygen is separated out by passing through chambers formed by perforated plates 37 in a container 36, Fig. 4 ; the gases are led in through a central tube 41. The container may be rotated through a toothed wheel attached to the flange 40 and the walls may be cooled. To remove ice which forms in the container its rotation is stopped, hot gases are passed through and the liquid is run out. The purified gas outlet is at 38. In a modification the container 42, Fig. 5, is conical and the deflecting plates 43 are arched ; in another construction each plate 37, Fig. 6, is placed in a separate chamber 44. The condensate may be removed from the separators through an excess pressure valve or by a pump. The container and the pump may be driven by turbines.
