[Class 126.] An imitation fire comprises a substantially opaque front imitation fuel member 7, means for illuminating it from the front, such as a strip light 8 hidden by a bar 9, and fire-bars or like members 4 in front of the fuel surface, these bars being spaced comparatively closely, i.e. from “-inch to 1¢-inches apart. The close spacing of the bars is stated to give an improved effect of realism to the front of the fire, as seen between the bars. The bars may have reflecting surfaces, being for example chromium plated. The fuel member 7 may be a block of cement or other material suitably shaped and coloured, or wholly or partly whitened, the lamp 8 being coloured to give a bright red light. Alternatively, the fuel member may be a block formed of pieces of real or imitation fuel, and small apertures may be left in it for the passage of light from a lamp 11 behind it. It may also be formed of translucent material with an opaque backing plate. The top of the fire is formed from real or imitation fuel 10 which may be coloured, and which is illuminated by a coloured lamp 11 with flicker device 13. A reflector 19 reflects light from the lamp 11 through slits in the front of an imitation ash-box 5 in which i mounted the switch 16. At each side of the fire is a plug socket 17 from which current may be supplied to a radiator, kettle, &c.
