Abstract

397,856. Transformers. NICHOLSON, H. G., Britannia Works, Colchester, Essex. Nov. 21, 1931, No. 23312/32. Divided on 379,667. [Class 38 (ii).] In a self-regulating transformer of the type in which there is provided, in addition to the main core L carrying the secondary winding 4, an auxiliary core 2 linking with the primary winding 3 and arranged to be operated at saturation so that the shunt flux remains of constant magnitude but becomes phase displaced with respect to the main flux linking with the secondary winding as load current increases, the auxiliary core is situated outside the window of the main core. An auxiliary winding connected in series with a phase-shifting device such as a variable condenser may be provided on the auxiliary core to enable the flux conditions therein to be varied.
