Abstract
397,708. Distant-control systems. DOMBRINE, M. A., 49, Avenue Aristide Briand, Montrouge, Seine, France. Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30660. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1931. [Class 40 (i).] In an electrically-controlled toy vehicle wherein all the operations are controlled from a single fixed apparatus, the vehicle is connected to the control apparatus by a flexible cable that allows the operator to drive and steer the vehicle in any direction without the vehicle being compelled to follow any fixed path. Steering of the vehicle is effected from the control station, Fig. 6, by rotating a spindle 59 carrying a toothed wheel 63 situated below an insulating disc 62. Clockwise rotation of the spindle, through a spring arm 67, Fig. 9, frictionally mounted thereon, rocks a plate 64 to cause a contact 66 to brush against the ends of the teeth of the wheel 63. A series of impulses are thus transmitted to a magnet 441, Fig 4, on the vehicle, that repeatedly attracts a lever-arm 39<1> and through a stud 35 rotates a ratchet wheel 33 connected to the track bar of the vehicle. Similarly, counterclockwise rotation of the spindle 59 through a contact 65 energizes a magnet 44<2> to move the track bar in the opposite direction. In a modification, Figs. 10 and 15, the vehicle is steered by rotating a spindle 142 whereby an insulated cam 144 frictionally mounted on the spindle is positioned to allow one of two spring contacts 141<1>, 141<2> to brush against the teeth of a wheel 140 rigid with the spindle. Impulses are thus transmitted to one of two magnets 117<1>, 117<2> that repeatedly attracts a roller 116 and thereby causes a shaft 115 geared to the track rod 112 to rotate.
