Abstract
872,342. Toy vehicles. REISER, R. April 15, 1959 [April 15, 1958], No. 12828/59. Class 132(3). An electrically driven toy vehicle is steered by remotely controlled electromagnetic means. As shown in Fig. 1, an electric motor 5 drives a rear wheel axle 2 through gears 9, 8, 7, 6, while the axle drives a toothed disc 18 through a worm 19. A control lever 16 linked to front wheel axles 11 and having a slot 24 fitting over the disc axle 25, carries two electromagnets 20, 21 by means of which it can be magnetically coupled to the disc 18 to effect the steering. With the disc rotating in the direction X, when the electromagnet 21 is energised, the rod is moved forward, within the confines of the slot 24, to turn the wheels 12, 13 to the right whereas, when the electromagnet 20 is energised, the wheels are directed to the left. In an alternative embodiment, the control lever 16 comprises two pairs of pivoted arms. In another alternative, Fig. 4, there is only one electromagnet 33, the steering wheels being biased by a spring 38 in a direction opposite from that in which the magnet 33 causes movement. As shown a driving disc 35 is vertical and the magnet has a counterweight 39 but the disc may be horizontal. In yet another alternative, Fig. 7, the disc 18 is arranged always to rotate in the same direction, independent of reversal of the motor 5, by' means of a cranked shaft 53, a slide 50 and a resilient arm 49 which engages the disc teeth. A resilient arm 54 prevents return rotation. The control lever may be of brass or aluminium the disc may be of iron.
