Abstract

1292441 Spherical entertainment device J G T ALMOND 16 Dec 1969 [16 Sept 1968] 43916/68 Headings A6M and A6S A pleasure vehicle or mobile toy comprises a hollow sphere containing a freely moving internal unit including driving means and at least one driving wheel which drives the unit by friction on the inner surface of the sphere, so that the sphere rolls along on a flat surface or a suitable track. In the preferred embodiment the internal unit is a bicycle fitted with supporting arms 22, 23, 24 terminating in castors 28, 29, 30 which are in contact with the surface of the sphere. Either the front wheel 12 or the castor 28 may be controlled to steer the unit. The unit may be adapted to be controlled directly by a rider and powered by an internal combustion engine or pedals or, in a toy, may be driven by an electric or clockwork motor and controlled by pre-set controls or remotely. When adapted for control by a rider the unit may be fitted with retractable legs to support it upright intially.
